The Black Well
A small environment based on my personal logo and inspired by hobby miniatures. Both a night and day version were created to play with different moods and how they can change the overall vibe.
The Black Well is meant to be a mysterious power that takes the form of a simple brick well, appearing randomly and drawing individuals in. Held together with the same dark liquid it contains, it acts as a portal to other dimensions. The being behind it could be considered a neutral force as it only acts out of curiosity, tempting anyone who comes across it to view their alternate self or completely different worlds. It tends to show up in locations that can draw open minds towards it.
Initial sketches were done on sticky notes so I could keep them on my monitor as I worked.
When I began modelling the well, I intended to bake it down to a lower poly mesh, similar to the finer details of the power line. After a couple of iterations, I decided to use a custom material to better define the bricks since it would allow me more freedom.
